Gemstone Guide — SETH GARNES

At HSN I worked on a series of 8 videos with the purpose of educating customers about the jewelry they were buying. Here's an edit of the graphics I created that were used in the videos.

Since I had an opportunity to work on set, I worked as VFX Supervisor on set for the shoot of these jewelry commercials. There were 8 in total, each video dedicated to a brief history of each gemstone including: Diamonds, Gold, Silver, Pearls, Precious Gems, Semi-Precious Gems, Exotic Gems, and a "Gemstone Guide" video to briefly cover all gemstones.

To track the text to the backdrop of the jewelry shoot, I put a dot on a piece of hole-punch paper, and then taped it to part of the rig in the background. Working in post I composited it out.

Here's some process sketches from both preproduction and on set. Most are storyboards I did on set to illustrate where graphics should fall and how the blocking should compensate for that in the take.
